PRS Brings the Acclaimed NF3 to the Affordable SE Line
The PRS SE NF3 is a distinct guitar in the PRS lineup. At the heart of this guitar are a trio of PRS Narrowfield pickups, a first for the SE Series. Supporting these pickups is a Poplar body, 22-fret bolt-on maple neck, and the choice of either a rosewood or maple fretboard. The SE NF3 is a versatile workhorse guitar that is fun to play and hard to put down. The Narrowfield DD (Deep Dish) “S” pickups are made with taller bobbins to fit more winds and extra metal pieces in between the magnets for a more focused, powerful tone. Anchored with PRS’s patented tremolo, this guitar can bend and flutter with ease.
Perfect for rock, blues, gospel, country, or jazz, the PRS SE NF3 can punch, cry, lay down, or sing – as you like it.
Body
The NF3 SE features a poplar body with the patented PRS tremolo bridge, three “narrowfield” pickups, one volume, one tone, a five way switch, and is available in four colors: Ice Blue Metallic, Gun Metal Gray, Metallic Orange, and Pearl White.
Pickups
What sets the NF3 SE apart from all other PRS guitars (and, indeed, all other guitars) are the “narrowfield” pickups. According to PRS, “[t]he Narrowfield DD (Deep Dish) “S” pickups are made with taller bobbins to fit more winds and extra metal pieces in between the magnets for a more focused, powerful tone.” GearSpec found them to be very versatile, with the closest match to it being the P90 in tone (but without hum).
Neck
The NF3 SE uses the “wide-thin” PRS neck profile. GearSpec found the neck very comfortable and noticeably thinner compared to the Silver Sky SE, but a wider neck profile than the Silver Sky SE. The Silver Sky SE neck measured 1/64″ thicker at the .5 fret, and 5/64″ thicker at the 12.5 fret than the NF3. But the NF3 measured nearly a full mm wider at the first fret.
